A ONE-MAN Dickens show brought smiles to visitors to a library.

Acclaimed actor Laurence Foster visited Stanmore Library on Friday last week as part of 10 free shows across the capital for An Audience with Dickens, which showed the best and worst of the famous author's grisly and lovable characters.

The show formed part of the Cityreads campaign which took place across all London boroughs and aimed to get more people involved with reading.

Among the events in Harrow were free copies of Oliver Twist given out by library workers at Tube stations and a cartoon event at Pinner Library.

Mr Foster has been seen on television, appearing in the popular show The Tudors.
