Stanmore postie took parcels home

A royal mail employee who kept packages in her home and car was given a two year suspended sentence today.

Natasha Telfer, of Larkspur Road, Kingsbury, pleaded guilty to intentionally delaying 580 packages at Harrow Crown Court.

The post was found in the boot of her car with another 29 packages found at her home, which were meant to be delivered in the Stanmore area from July-October 2006.

Some of the pouches found in her home had been opened, but according to Telfer she had been unable to deliver all the packages on her shift and had taken them home and forgotten about them.

The shop assistant, who is now six months pregnant, previously suffered from a psychotic illness, which she felt may have contributed to her crimes.

The 28-year-old worked at the Stanmore delivery office, off Honeypot Lane, for two years, was the subject of a £2,680 investigation.

Recorder Robert Glancy QC said: "People expecting the mail would have suffered distress and may have suffered serious personal problems, who knows what was in those packets.

"People in this country are entrusted with these mail deliveries and you did not, keeping them in your home and tampering with them is a very serious offence."

Telfer was also ordered to pay £500 in costs.
